As any other story it can contain some elements of truth but it's very improbable that it's the whole truth.
The Video : in TurkishThe 18.5 billion dollar storyIn this story the following points were meantioned :
1- Cash sum is
7.5 billion $2- Gold quantity
20 tons3- Total value
18.5 billion dollar4- One truck seized.
Additional assumptions:
1- The 7.5 billion $ are in 100$ bills as shown in the video, and because they are the biggest bills commonly in circulation.
2- The gold is (the standard delivery bar) in 12.44 kg bars.
3- Truck size should comply with the standards in transportation- not custom made.
Facts I- Gold price and DimensionsOne Gold tonne = 1000 kilograms = 32,150.746 troy ounces (value US$30,597,865 as of July 26, 2009)
20 Gold tonne = 611 957 300 $
= 1644 delivery bar
Deliver bar dimensions:length = 250 mm
width= 70 mm
height= 35 mm
1 delivery bar volume = 61250 mm³
1644 delivery bar volume = 1 m³
II- 7.5 billion $ sizeOne dollar is 6 inches long, and 2½ inches wide, and roughly as thick as a regular piece of paper.
3000 $ is roughly the thickness of a ream of paper, 2 inches thick or 500 sheets.
7.5 billion $ has a size equal to 3 feet x 15 feet x 62½ feet
= 2813 ft³ = 79.6552 m³
III- Truck size and load capacityAs any other transport truck, we assume it is a standard intermodal containers that are standardised by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
There are five common standard lengths, 20-ft (6.1 m), 40-ft (12.2 m), 45-ft (13.7 m), 48-ft (14.6 m), and 53-ft (16.2 m).
the most common types of containers 20′ container, 40′ container, 40′ high-cube container and 45′ high-cube container while the 48′ and 53′ are used mainly in the U.S.
so the biggest common truck load is the 45′ high-cube container that has the following specifications:
external dimensions : length : 13.716 m width:2.438 m height:2.896 m
interior dimensions : l:13.556 m w:2.352 m h:2.698 m
volume: 86.1 m³
maximum gross mass: 30,400 kg
net load: 25,600 kg
the 53′ container (the biggest container design) which is mainly used in the U.S. should have:
net load: 30,152 kg
volume: 101.4 m³
18.5 billion$ story V.S FactsI- The Gold value inaccuracy:
The value of 20 Gold tonne = 611 957 300 $ and not 11 billion $
11 billion $ would need 360 tonne of Gold.
II- The volume of the cash and gold and truck load:
assuming the truck used the 45′ high-cube container (volume: 86.1 m³, net load: 25,600 kg) it could easily contain the: Gold +7.5 billion$ Notes.
Analyzing the storyThe story doesn't add up, because the missing 10 billions can not be in either Gold bars form nor any type of Cash money form and still fit in the same truck.
This could be another media manipulation similar to :
Neda videoThe story does not logically add up either, sending such a huge some of money unprotected is illogical.
But some information can be hidden from the public by both the Turkish custom and Iranian officials...
So this story can not be labeled as true or false due to insufficient information
